Song Spotlight: Jack Black - Steve’s Lava Chicken

Appearing in the video game-inspired American fantasy adventure comedy film, A Minecraft Movie, this catchy tune was co-written by actor and musician, Jack Black (who plays the character of Steve), along with director Jared Hess. ‘Steve’s Lava Chicken’ features as a jingle in a scene, where Steve cooks a chicken by pouring lava over it - because, well, Minecraft logic.

The jaunty tune has since made its way off the big screen and onto the charts, currently peaking at number 11 on the UK's Official Top 40 Chart. At just 34 seconds long, it made history by becoming both the shortest song ever to enter the chart and the Top 20!

This isn’t Black’s first viral video game movie song rodeo—his power ballad ‘Peaches’ from The Super Mario Bros. Movie exploded online—but ‘Steve’s Lava Chicken’ is now officially his highest-charting UK hit.
